Updated: Apr 28, 2020

Type of engine oil Most of rider needs to know is the type of engine oil that they are using or planning to use. Engine oil are classified into 3 primary categories- Mineral oils, semi-synthetic oils and fully synthetic oils.

Mineral oil This is the most basic variety of engine oils and is most commonly used for a large majority of every vehicles.it is highly recommended for smaller capacity engines which do not impose a lot of mechanical pressure while running. The upside of mineral oils is that they are very affordable and will not hurt your wallet for frequent oil changes. But for mineral oils is that they don’t last very long so you need to replace the oil at recommended intervals

Semi-synthetic oil Semi-synthetic oil is a mixture between mineral oils and synthetic oils. Manufacturers have taken the best of both worlds; the high level of protection from mineral oils and high performance aspects from synthetic oils, designed to come with some of the benefits of a fully synthetic while not being quite as expensive If you’re running a smaller capacity bikes upwards to 250cc which produces a healthy horsepower but still are not put under a lot of stress (like normal daily commutes to work), the semi-synthetic oil is the right choice for you.

Fully synthetic oil Fully Synthetic oils are specially engineered to offer better performance than mineral oils. The main benefit is that they will protect your engine across much broader temperature range;even beyond your engine’s maximum temperature. Apart from performance exceptionally well in extreme cold and hot conditions, these engine oils have other superior properties too. These include lesser evaporation, low smudge formation and better detergent properties.
